Q1: Give us a general experience with Miss Africa sponsored AboCoders training and how your digital skills were enhanced
ONWUDIWE: Before I became a beneficiary and started training here at AboCoders, my previous knowledge of the computer was very little (basically primary school knowledge) and I didn’t know how to handle a computer or what to do with it. Also I had zero interest in computers.
The Miss.Africa Sponsored, AboCoders training however has boosted my interest in computers and has greatly enhanced my digital skills. Now I can use the computer to write code, especially html, I can also surf the internet and be well informed, self-learn and develop my coding knowledge. I can send emails and make video calls as well.
My digital skills have been enhanced such that now when I see a computer, I know lots of things to do with it. I will love to be a professional web developer and make money for myself.
Q2: How did the Miss Africa sponsored AboCoders training enhance your perceptions of the involvement of women in technology
ONWUDIWE: I was aware that women are into technology before I came to AboCoders. However, with all the training and exposure at AboCoders, I now realize that women are even needed more in technology because what a man can do, a woman can equally do and should be allowed to do.
As a woman, I think we should sensitize one another on the importance of having women in technology. I also think that the involvement of women in technology creates empowerment for such women for instance from my knowledge of coding, I can design a website and make money through it.
Q3: Give us a professional instance during your training that remains a landmark in your career profession
ONWUDIWE: A memorable instance that remains a landmark for me was when we were invited for the PyCon Nigeria (Python Conference) and I went along with one of my trainers. A particular speaker, Marlene from Zimbabwe caught my attention with the way she delivered her speech. I finally got to have a conversation with her and I will never forget that.
Also, at an event we had here at the AboCoders Minna hub, one of the guest speakers, Miss Jennifer explained to us that one can design robots and make them do whatever they have been programmed to. It has really got me thinking and I intend to further my knowledge in that aspect.
Q4: Outline your take on the future of women technology In Africa
ONWUDIWE: In the nearest future like in the next five or ten years, I envisage a lot of women in technology. I also believe Africa in the nearest future, women will take the lead in technology and make tremendous changes in the world.
However, finally my take of the future of women technology in Africa is that women will eventually take over and do better what the men have been doing.
